Done properly it is invisible: speakers flush in the ceiling, amplifiers in a closet, and one app that plays the same thing everywhere for a party or something different in every room on a Sunday morning.

Investment
Projects start at $2,400
A four-zone Sonos system with in-ceiling speakers typically runs $6,000 to $15,000 installed. A single deck or dock zone starts around $2,400.
Sonos or something else?
Sonos for almost everyone — the app is the best in the category and it keeps working for a decade. We spec Denon HEOS or a Control4-native amp when there is a specific reason, and we will tell you what that reason is.
Can I put speakers on the dock?
Yes, and we do it often. It takes direct-burial wire, marine-grade or all-weather speakers, and a run planned around the shoreline. Done right it lasts; done with indoor speakers and lamp cord it lasts one season.
Do speakers have to be visible?
No. In-ceiling speakers with pencil-edge grilles get painted to match your ceiling and effectively vanish. Most people cannot find them in a room they have been sitting in for an hour.
